Teeth of Mammals/Narwhal/Petethepiratesquid/Kias Fansuri - Circle of Friends: 4 Way Split

This is a pretty global split. Teeth of Mammals are from Pennsylvania, Narwhal are from England, Petethepiratesquid are from Germany, and Kias Fansuri are from Malaysia. It's a nice tight release, and is a fine sample of what these bands are all about. A nice mix of the chaotic and melodic, overall, and recommended listening if just for the first track alone.

Sadly, this is the only other record by R. Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders. It's chock-full of the weird 20's-esque bluegrass of their previous record. After R. Crumb moved to France, it became more difficult for the band to be together, although they theoretically do play together still, mostly without R. Crumb. Again, another delightful summertime record with a closer that makes me think about post-apocalyptic America for some reason.

A crazy and very danceable bluegrass record by famed comix artist R. Crumb and a bunch of his friends. The combination of wonky, surreal lyrics (there's even a theremin!) with typical Crumb touches on the lyrics (particularly on "Fine Artiste Blues") makes this record one of my favorites to play for a feel-good summertime. Ukuleles are the fucking best. While the title track is the best, the whole record is a must listen.

This record draws more on the shoegaze influence, in my opinion, and is more relaxing as a result. Better for working and relaxing, but still with quite a bit of bite.
